3. How good of a swimmer do I need to be?
All levels of swimmers are accepted. The Gold River Stingrays is a recreational swim team. The only pre-requisite is that your child be able to swim the length of the pool by the end of April. We have yet to have a child not be able to do this if they come to practice.
4. Can I play baseball and still do swim team?
Absolutely. We have many swimmers that do both. Swim practice is available to you 5 days per week. You can come to as many or as few practices as your schedule permits. We have time trials one weekend in May and only one other meet in May. The bulk of our schedule is after baseball season ends.
5. Can I go to summer school and still do swim team?
Yes, as we will offer practice 5 mornings per week or 5 afternoons per week during the summer months.
6. What is the swim meet schedule?
Time Trials May 3rd, Meets May 10th, May 17th, May 31, June 7th, June 21st, June 28th, July 12th, and Championships July 19-20th. As you can see there are many free weekends.
7. Do I have to go to all the meets?
No. If you are going to miss a meet, you simply sign out a week in advance and we will not schedule your child to swim. You need to swim in 2 meets to be eligible for championships.
8. What is the team philosophy?
To have fun, make new friends, build self-confidence and become a better swimmer. We will be emphasizing personal bests this year.
9. Can I take tennis and still swim?
Yes. The tennis schedules and swim schedules do not usually conflict for the same age slots.
10. Do I have to be a member of the Gold River Racquet Club to be on swim team?
Yes you do but if you are a first time member we will reduce the initiation fees to $50.00 for you. This allows you and your family access to all amenities provided at the health club. Parents can work out while swimmers practice and take advantage of our many aerobic classes, tennis, use of the kids club etc. Call Kimm Springer at 638-7001 for more information about membership.
11. What is my commitment as a parent?
Swim team is run solely by parent volunteers. Each family is asked to commit to a job in a variety of areas such as timer, age group parent, hospitality etc. Full details will be available at registration.
12. How do I register my child?
Swim team sign-ups will be held in the club lobby on Feb. 9th and March 8th from 9 am until noon. Please bring a birth certificate.
13. What is March Clinic?
During the month of March we offer a 4-week program focusing on a different stroke each week. It is a great time to get your kids in the pool with instruction before swim team starts on April 1st. It is also highly suggested for new swimmers to introduce them to the strokes they will be swimming during the season as well as a refresher for our old timers. You can sign up for this as well on Feb. 9th.
14. What equipment do I need for swim team?
We encourage you to purchase a team swimsuit to be worn at meets only (use other suits for practice). Also goggles and fins with your name on them are suggested, as they will be misplaced at least once. You can purchase these at swim team sign ups as well as at our mandatory team meeting on March 27th.

Yes! There will be many changes implemented this year that you will need to hear about.
